Vikrant Massey opens up about rejecting PR glamour; says, “I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was”

Nowadays, an actor's prominence and staying power aren't determined just by their talent or how well their films perform at the box office—public relations (PR) now play a key role in crafting their image, impact, and career longevity. During a recent conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Vikrant Massey shared that he once attempted to improve his PR efforts—but didn't succeed.

Discussing his decision to not adopt many PR strategies to maintain relevance in the industry, Vikrant said, "There are days when I actually sit back and question my choices also. There are days when I probably fall weak, and sit with that thought for 2-3 days, am I doing the right thing, should I go and position myself in a certain way? Should I actually go out there and get clicked by paps? To each their own, voh zaruri bhi hai kyunki uska ek traction hai (That is also important because it has its own traction)."

He confessed to attempting to gain visibility through PR efforts but found it didn’t suit him, saying, "I tried for 4-5 months, probably half a year. I started attending parties, I started renting out clothes, and they are so expensive. Itna paisa lagta hai ek hi baar kapde pehanane ke liye (It costs so much to wear clothes one time). 50-60K a day, per event. My wife, who was my girlfriend then, said Why? For 4-5 hours, you are wearing big designer's clothes, voh poore mahine ka kharcha hai humara,  I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was. I was not being myself. I was always conscious wearing those ultra expensive clothes ki kuch ganda naa hojaaye because I had to return them."

Bollywood actors are frequently spotted striking poses for the paparazzi at airports as they head off for vacations or work, showcasing their airport fashion. Numerous celebrities rely on PR strategies to maintain a consistent presence in the public eye, and this has now evolved into a widespread trend.

The actor’s upcoming project is the romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which also marks the debut of Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor. Directed by Santosh Singh and written by Mansi Bagla, the film is presented by Zee Studios and Mini Films. It delves into the love story of two visually impaired individuals as they experience the highs and challenges of contemporary romance. The film is set to hit theatres on July 11.
